How to make a Word Weld
Word Welding with the Silhouette 5.1 software
1. Start the Silhouette 5.1 software, choose your paper size and bring up your blank canvas.
2. With the text button put your desired letters on the canvas ONE LETTER PER OBJECT selecting the font and size for each letter.
3 Arrange the letters as desired connecting the letters one with the other. THE LETTERS CAN ONLY TOUCH EACH OTHER IN ONE SPOT ON EACH SIDE. Remember you can adjust the size, tilt, font, and aspect of each letter individually.
4 Draw a select box around the entire word weld with the mouse by putting the cursor beyond the top left then push and hold the mouse button and drag the cursor beyond the bottom right corner of the word weld then let go. If done correctly your entire word weld is now selected and is blue with a blue box around it.
5 Select the "Edit" drop down menu then the "Weld Shapes" menu item. or push the Weld Button located at the top right of the screen the 2nd button from the end "a square with a circle connected to it".
6 You should be done.
Notes:
If when you weld it doesn't look like you want you can use the undo feature in the edit menu.
If the shapes connect in more then one spot the whole middle of the word weld will disappear.
You can include shapes and letters.
If your program doesn't have a weld button or weld is not in the edit menu you have the old silhouette program. Click here to download the new Silhouette 5.1 program for free.
The Silhouette program is also called Craft Robo.
If you want a more complex word weld, where the letters and or shapes can connect in as many places as you want. You have to design it in a graphics program or a photo editing program, then save the file as a jpg file and import it in using the insert menu then add file. Then use the get outline feature to automatically add the cut lines.
